Flint and Steel Kit No. 4.2.2

Flint and Steel Kit No 4.2.2 is a traditional fire starter kit based on the design and content of Kit No. 4.2. It is packaged in a compartmentalized brown-colored genuine leather bag with an additional shoulder strap.

This adjustable leather strap can be attached to the bag by two carbines. Of course, you can do far more with the strap than just wear it. It's perfect for hanging your fire making kit near the hearth of your campfire or even on the branch of a tree for safekeeping while you go about your daily business.

At Flint and Steel, we believe that your level of prior preparation determines whether you'll succeed at a given task. This is so true of fire making that we've hand-sewn individual compartments into the leather bag, making sure that each component of your fire making kit has its own predetermined place within.

This brown leather bag has space for:

  • A hand-forged high carbon firesteel, 3” (75 mm) in length
  • A small tin container of linen-based char cloth tinder
  • Two pieces of high-grade dark gray flint stone
  • Two bundles of jute twine kindling
  • A foldable step-by-step instruction manual with color photos

We are proud to be the descendants of traditional blacksmiths and leather craftsmen and even prouder to have been able to keep their traditions and skills alive up to the present day. With such a duty to uphold, we make nearly everything that goes into our kits ourselves.

Our genuine leather is tanned and hand-sewn to produce our bags and pouches, and our high-grade flint stone is hand-picked from the finest mineral beds in Europe. The only thing that we outsource is the production of the small tin containers for our homemade linen-based char cloth.

This kit is suitable for anyone interested in camping, hiking or any other outdoor pursuit. Above all, we want to make traditional flint and steel fire making easy and enjoyable to do, so we have supplemented our printed step-by-step instructions with demonstrative online videos.
