Flint and Steel Kit No. 8.1

Flint and Steel Kit No. 8.1 was designed primarily with function in mind, but it certainly doesn't lack the beauty of our other traditional fire starter kits either. This beige-colored genuine leather kit most closely represent the kind of pouches that would have been carried by the denizens of medieval Europe.

At Flint and Steel, we always aim to create a perfect match between style and substance. As such, the pouch opens and closes by the simple means of pulling on the leather cord drawstrings. This gives you immediate access to the vital contents within, and lets you quickly protect them from the elements.

This traditional fire making kit includes:

- A hand-forged high carbon firesteel, 3” (75 mm) in length
- A small tin container of linen-based char cloth tinder
- Three pieces of high-grade dark gray flint stone
- Two bundles of jute twine kindling
- English language instructions with color photos

Except the small tin container, all of the components of this fire making kit are handmade and/or naturally sourced. We make our char cloth according to our own traditional methods and we even handpick our flint from the finest mineral beds in Northern Europe. This attention to detail is why we can be sure of the high quality of our products and are proud to offer our flint and steel kits for sale.

We believe that everyone should know how to make a fire if they intend to take a trip into the wilderness. With this in mind, our traditional fire starter kits are suitable for men, women and supervised children alike. This particular kit would make a great outdoors gift and is a natural addition to the equipment of a modern camper as well as that of a medieval re-enactor.
